Help! No BIOS/UEFI Display after new card install

Hey guys,

I'm hoping someone can help me with a very annoying problem I am facing. I just upgraded my graphics card to an MSI Radeon R9 280x 3G Gaming Edition card. The problem I'm having is that during post I get a distorted, almost out of range muddle image which does not allow me to see the BIOS or UEFI. If I leave the computer to boot the windows starts up fine and the display is normal. It is only during the POST that there is no display. The TV I am using is a Panasonic GT50 plasma and upon booting my TV tells me that the refresh rate detects a 1080p 50hz input however, there is no display. Of course my TV supports this resolution as it is standard PAL.

I've been looking on the net and found only a handful of people with a similar issue but I haven't found a solution as yet. I'm guessing it's my TV as the BIOS/UEFI displays fine when I connect my TV to another set. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this and I'd appreciate some suggestions. I'll try uploading a video of the problem if that helps. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

can only be bios issue then?

could try the backup bios position on the gpu?

Thanks guys. I don't think there is a way around this problem which renders the card pretty much useless. I will try the BIOS switch to see if by some miracle it works. Win 8 .1 is spot on. DVI is not an option for me. Cheers for the help guys!

You need the BIOS often? If it works in Windows I don't see the card as useless.

Not too often once I get the PC set up the way I want it, but I'm trying to make some clocking tweaks here and there which is a bit of a pain. My onboard HDMI is an option but it doesn't actually work. I'm thinking it could be disabled in the BIOS or something as I've never used it. Now; how do I see the BIOS to change it

By hooking up a 60hz monitor changing it and switching back to the tv.

Only works if you have a spare 60hz monitor though.

Worst case scenario, I'll shift the unit back into my kitchen TV and change it from there. It isn't exactly portable though. Oh well!

if you keep pressing delete or F2 then would it boot to bios?

That's a good point mightymouse. I did try that once but it didn't wor for whatever reason. I will give it a try again some time tomorrow incase I was pressing the button at the wrong time or something. Cheers!
