Hi

Well ive set up the rig in my sig, but when i switch it on all the fans spin up, the asus light comes on, but most importantly 2 red LED's light up on my HIS X1900xt. I have 2 of these cards and they both do the same thing.

These LED's are by the power connector and say:

- T_fault
-Ext_powr

Any ideas what the problem is, as i thought it would be unlikely that both my HIS cards are dead. Possibly mobo, but could someone run through a list of what should be connected up, just incase ive missed something.

cheers

I would try another psu. If u only use one of the cards does it do the same?

Ye i mean that im only using 1 card at a time (im building 2 duplicate rigs.)

Just tried my other psu and the lights are still lit up. I might try the other mobo. Would a dead cpu or dead ram cause this, or does it look like a gfx / mobo problem?

2 things:
1. Are all power connections made to the mobo - I have a PCI power connector to my mobo (DQ6) as well as all the others
2. Also do the cards require an external power connection? My x1900xt also gets a power connection all to itself.

Hmmstill nothing, and the 2 red leds are lit up on the gfx card.

I have connected:

- Main atx connector to mobo
- tried both 4pin and 8pin connections at the top of the mobo.
- PLugged in floppy..... both power and cable to mobo.
- plugged in dvdrw... both power and cable to mobo.
- plugged in SATA HDD... sata power and sata cable to mobo.
- pci-e 6 pin to the gfx
- power button, and reset button
- ps2 keyboard, usb mouse
- montiror (dvi) to gfx (tried both outputs)

i think thats it. But i cant feel the heatsink heatpipes getting hot at all. but i dunno if thats a worry as im using a lapped tuniq, liquid metal grease, plus the cpu has only just been installed.

il try my other mobo, cpu and heatsink after lunch.

any more ideas ?

Well good and bad news.

Assembled my second P5B-D + e63-- + tuniq tower, plugged it all in and it booted first time.

So i guess im looking most probably at a dead cpu or less likely a dead mobo :(

IL go and test every bit of hardware now to see exactly what the problem is.

Right i managed to get it to boot.

But now whatever BIOS settings i try this comes up :

Intel cpu uCode loading error !!!!

That seems pretty weird and doesn;t go away when i reset default setting in the BIOS, or when i change voltage and bootup settings.

Any ideas with whats going on. Cpu seems to be borked to me but it's running and installing windows fine at the moment
