Hi,

I have recently built a pc and attempted overclocking, now the pc only starts up to bios. I have tried re-installing windows but it just seems to crash citing the pc needs to be repaired. Most options are greyed out cannot access system recovery/repair options or cmd prompt etc.

I have tried google for answers but found nothing.

I also forgot to mention, after the pc did not boot up the first time I tried re-installing windows. When I got to the part when u select the hd/partition etc

I deleted the partitions as if did not allow me to install on those.

Having said that I installed the ssd in another pc, formatted it and i’m getting error codes like

0xc0000098

BCD file is missing

Or sometimes 0cc00000f
Winload/efi

I have reset bios via jumper and cmos.

When trying to boot from usb i get a black screen and cursor.

Also re-seated cpu....nothing seems to work.

What is the system specs? What did you change when you attempted the overclock?

It looks like you destroyed the boot sector on the HDD, you can try and repair it a few ways but try this:

use the windows disk and select repair computer, then open a command prompt and enter the following

bootrec.exe /FixMbr (press return and let it finish)
bootrec.exe /FixBoot (press return and let it finish)
bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd (press return and let it finish)

Try and reboot the machine normally, hopefully it'll work otherwise you have to reinstall windows - you may even have damaged some hardware with the attempted overclock.

Thanks for the reply,

i5-6600k
asus z170-e
kingston 480gb ssd
8gb ram ddr4

I can't get to any repair options ie windows disk etc as it just boots up to bios or screen stays black or blue error screen
don't think i can get to command prompt from windows.

secure boot is greyed out so can't disable that

I think the mobo might have been damaged:(
