okay so heres the thing: recently i have had problems with windows shutting down about 2 mins after i boot it up (come up with a blue screen saying windwos has had to shut down to stop it braking). it did, however, run in safe mode. so i was told that this could be due to it over-heatng, so i cleared out all the fans. this didnt work. i then figuerd it must be a registry problem, so i used comodo system cleaner, one of the only ones i know that works. this proved that it was a registry problem, so i figured restoring it bck to when it worked would help. but the last restore piont it had, was when it wasnt as bad and would only happen when i shut the system down (windows would shut down when i wanted it to, but would come up with the blue screen saying it has to have been shut down ect ect). i soon got rather frustrated with this, and thought i would load up a new operating system, so i loaded up windows 7 64bit ultimate, but this must have been scratched or something coursing it to miss out 2 vital .dll's. so i i thought, **** it, and installed windows home edition wich had made a password for me, that i did not know.and before you ask, yes i have tryed possible passwords, and even no password. so again, i thought **** it, im going to go try xp professional. this works in some ways, but does not show the desktop as such, only shows the backround. i have tried loading explorer.exe manually, but no hope, couldnt even find the ****ing thing. so, i post this here in hope that one of you technologically advanced people can help me (im still worried about the fact that windows will shut itself down once i get xp proffesional to work fully) any help is appreciated. and im sorry if i posted this in the wrong place or whatever, but please help me :/ im new to this forum.

-thanks in advance.

how are you installing the other operating systems? are you doing a proper format and install?

check the dvd rom of windows to make sure not scratched or covered in dust.

Try running memtest from cd. Also, do you have another PC to try bits from that one in? Sounds like a hardware problem if it's having issues under multiple OS installs?

if it's having issues under multiple OS installs?

they are kinda dodgy, i must say. i have been told that going to ctrl+alt+del then starting a new task "explorer.exe" - because at this piont in time, i just want to be able to use the desktop, so that i can run a malware scan. i have tried the ctrl+alt+del, and done the explorer.exe, but that doesnt seem to work for me, any ideas? and i can try and test out some of the possible hardware on the computer on another one, might not be able to though. seeing as the computer i am on now is a laptop, but i might be able to find one. but this explorer.exe not running, any ideas?

You can install and run Malwarebytes from the task manager, just browse to the installer then the executable. To be honest, I doubt it's a virus on new installs, unless you've torrented them? Even so...

Try and test out your hardware. I'd be looking at RAM and the hard drive first.

Memtest86 boot CD for RAM

HD Tune for the HDD, free trial is fine. You may need to put the HDD in another PC to get this going, have a look at the SMART health info

okay, thanks for your help :)
and i think its all sorted now, and windows shutting down after boot has gone to (i tried unhooking a floppy and a few other un-needed items from the power suplly)
again, thanks for you help, all is fine so far, hopefully it will stay this way.
