My Alienware R8 had the usual pop up today 'Alienware updates available' so I went and did the required updates and it said 'BIOS updating do not unplug power' ect so I left it alone to finish these updates. It completed the updates then did the auto restart. It was at this point I have no display and no mouse or keyboard either. (I have Razer RGB peripherals and the rgb wasnt coming on thats how I know they arnt working)
Any ideas whats happened and how I go about fixing it?

Try removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for 10 minutes before putting it back in. Maybe you'll get lucky.

Good rule is to never update BIOS unless you need to, for better memory compatibility or something. And also to never update BIOS with some updating program within Windows, even if it's from the manufacturer. Greater chance of bricking the board that way. Use a USB stick and follow the directions for your particular board.

Took the battery out, waited 10mins and tried it.
This fixed my mouse and keyboard lol but still no display:(

Well you got your RGB back :p

Better call Dell and let them know what happened. Maybe try using the onboard graphics* instead of the GPU. Does sound like it's semi-bricked right now, though.

* You may need to remove the GPU in order to know for sure if this works or not. Some boards refuse to display onboard if the GPU is inserted.

Well I seem to have got super lucky:p
Id planned on taking out the gpu and seeing if I could get a display via the motherboard.
I turned on the system first just to check and it booted up:eek:. Took 2 attempts, first it got to the 'Alienware logo' then restarted but 2nd try booted up fine.
So I took the chance to back up everything I wanted onto an external HDD just incase it was a one off. Booted it up several times since and so far so good:D
All very strange but just glad its working.... Only needs to last couple more weeks and I should be able to get my new rig built:D (Just waiting on my GPU to come back in stock here at OC) (Gigabyte Geforce GTX 2070 Super)
