I was playing BF3 when the computer suddenly crashed. Screen was black in standby. Tried to power off and power on but the screen remains in standby. You can hear windows start up sound via the speakers.

So I tested the monitor + VGA cable + power cable on another PC and all is fine.
I used my older GTX460 and still the monitor stays in standby and again windows sounds like it loaded fine.

I did try to connect the GFX card to the 2nd PCI-E socket. No joy.
I will try my spare PSU tomorrow.

Could it actually be an issue with the PSU even though windows is loading fine?

What motherboard do you have? have you tried resetting the BIOS and making sure that PCIe is selected as the primary display adapter in the BIOS?

What model/brand is the PSU?(how old is it aswell) Some more info would help but it very well could be the PSU or the graphics card if you can hear windows loading in the background.
