help!!!! no picture from my ps3!!!!

Have just swapped my will with a mate for his ps3

i have connected everything up and when i plug in the av cable (not using hdmi or s-video)

and i get no picture, but do get sound when the ps3 first starts up, i think he may have been using the ps3 using hdmi?

any ideas how i can fix it? i have also tried putting the scart adapter on but still the same problem.

any ideas would be great

Just for clarification did you hold down the on/standby switch for 10 seconds to reset the ps3?

yes, i powered it down then held the power button until the picture flashed up on the tv, then switched the power on and it started working,

was very worried there for a minute,
