Hi
I have just build my new PC everything works with the integrated graphics but i don't get a signal when the discrete graphics card is used. unfortunately i don't have another PC to test the card in or another card to test in the PC :(
Spec:
Intel i3 3220
crucial ram 8gb
be quite pure power 530W
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H mother board
vtx 3d 7870 tahitie LE

when powered on the graphics card fan does spin up i have checked all cables and im happy there all connected properly i have also updated drives for the motherboard and checked the GPU is fully slotted in. I have also played around in the bios with PCI E setting but to no avail, (wasn't really sure what i was doing with bios settings so some suggestions might be helpful here)

anyway after all this im thinking the graphics card is dead any ideas or a confirmation would be great.

Ty Clem.

Ok so quick update just found a intel vga drive dl on http://uk.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4147&dl=1#driver
anyone know if thats what i might need?
after a bit of googleing i think that is just for the integrated graphics but ill give it a shot anyway. So i already have a newer version aparently..
i have intaled Intel INF which i may have missed before..

After trying this still no luck

One way to check if it is working is plug it in and connect the cable to the onboard gfx. In task manager, check to see if the card is recognised. If not, I would say it is a DOA.

Thanks for the reply but unfortunately I cant get the pc to run off the intergrated graphics if the card is inserted.. i tried to boot in safe mode as i found out this might work but cant figure this out for windows 8. is this a whoops shoulda gone windows 7 moment?

I am not familiar with Windows 8 sorry. I set up a laptop for my wifes friend and wasn't impressed and that is my only experience. Follow this example for safe mode booting:

Nice and easy to do. In truth though, it shouldn't need all this hassle to be recognised and should be recognisable at start up.

You can check in the BIOS to make sure the onboard is switched off and the PCI-E is enabled. Some motherboards may have the PCI-E switched off by default? Worth checking.

Have you tried looking in the bios to see where it has an option to enable/disable the onboard graphics? I think I remember having to do something for somones PC but im not 100%

thanks for the replys. I went into bios and changed graphics from auto to pci first so will try the card again.
if it still doesnt work ill have a go a getting safe mode to work again.

thanks for all the info guys. I managed to salvage an old card out of my mums machine and it runs fine so im 99% sure the gpu is DOA. think ill send it back for refund and get the saffire version the cooler on that looks nicer anyways..
