I want to overclock my E8500 a little as its struggling in BFBC2.

However last time I tried OCing I blew the motherboard (theres a thread on here some where :( ).

I have an ASUS P5K motherboard.

I also have 4GB of 1066MHz RAM (to get it to work at that speed I had to change something in the BIOS but I cant remember what).

I also have an after market cooler on the CPU.

I just want bump the speed a little so am looking for quick / easy / safe suggestions?

:)

Have upped FSB to 400 with 9.5 multiplier = 3800Mhz on the CPU.

The DRAM frequency is 533.3 Mhz and the FSB: DRAM is 3:4 - so how do I get it to 1:1 and does it matter?

Also I left the voltage as auto - cpu z shows core voltage as 1.248 V - is this ok?

Also temp under load is between 60 and 64?

I have now set the FSB to 400 and RAM to 400 so now its 1:1.

Am I losing much RAM performace doing this? Is this better than leaving it at 3:4?

I think it was 5 5 5 15 so would this have changed?

Whats the benefit of having 1:1 though as I reliased that it wasnt before I oc'd the cpu anyway?

It failed Prime on one core after 5 mins.

Reduced the RAM and the same core failed after 30 mins.

Bumped up the vcore to 1.3 and all seems ok so may try putting the RAM back up.

Thanks for your help.

I am going to play around with the timings and see if i can get better stability but i dont really know how to tune the RAM to be honest.

I dont really get the RAM side either - I'm not too fussed but it is annoying.

What temps do you get on the E8500?

Im getting similar temps.

Prime kept failing on the same core each time not sure if that makes a difference (was rounding error).
