HELP! old pc problem

got a problem with my old pentium 4 system, basically i have built it up cant see nothing wrong with it but when i switch it on it just freezes at the first 'splash screen' (using RS400-A Board if that helps), i feel like i have tryed everything here, i have cleared the CMOS using jumper and even tryed the bios protect jumper 'in hope' but that hasnt worked, the only thing i could think of after that was removing the 2 PCI cards that i had in there but that didnt help either... :( so im totally stuck and dont know what to try next. it wont let me use the keyboard either (it flashs at start up then i cant do nothing with it after that, even num-lock wont work :()
 
ok your right but am not 100% happy with the result :( looks like one of my RAM sticks maybe dead, but at least pc has started now :)

so i guess this thread is 'closed' for now :) usless something else happens

hello im back, everything installed ok fresh install of windows but am a lil worried about the running temps of my cpu last time i checked it was 55'c so i was going to test it under 'load' (GTA:SA) but it seem that simply installing GTA is pushing it beyond its limits :p
last time i used this P4 as my main pc (it was in a better case) it ran at about 40'c rising to never any more then 46'c
now its 55c (possibly more now) am wondering what are 'safe' temps to run at and should i enable the 'shutdown' option in bios?


EDIT: over 4500 RPM fan speed according to bios 'health screen' :eek:

i guess doin the thermal stuff again would help :p one problem i did have when fitting the hsf the top 2 'pins' 'clicked' into place perfect but the bottom 2 wouldn't seem to click into place too well... no matter how hard i pushed/forced them down :) is something possibly broke? i did check it but cant see anything that could be damaged
 
i normally do opposites (top-right then bottom left) but couldnt seem to manage it :( so both top ones it had to be, ill have to clean it too i guess :p
