I am currently running a:

Gainward BLISS 6800 GS ‘Goes like hell’ 512MB PCI-e

I am upgrading my system to SLI but am not sure what to do, I have found a matching Gainward BLISS 6800 GS ‘Goes like hell’ 512MB PCI-e so i could run two of them in SLI or i have been offered 2 Nvidia geforce 256 mb 8500gt's! I am unsure which would be better in performace so any help or advise would help!

In short What will give the better performance:

2x Gainward BLISS 6800 GS ‘Goes like hell’ 512MB PCI-e in SLI configuration

or

1x Club 3D 256mb 8500GT graphics PCI-e and 1x nVidia 256mb 8500GT Sonic PCI-E in SLI!

Thx for any help!

Neither. Sell the 6800GS and buy a single card. The x1950pro is about twice as fast an a 6800GT and even faster than that compared to an 8500GT. Add to that it only costs £65-70 and SLi isn't 100% efficient it's the obvious choice.

This may seen strange but ive always been with nVidia so is there any nVidia cards as an equvilent?
I would like to be able to the latest games on full if possible but without the £300 price tag!

Well... no, not really. The x1950pro is by far the best card in its price range. The only nVidia cards I would buy right now are the 8800 series which start from around £170 but are a lot faster.

The 8600GT is the only card comparable price wise but it's around 25% slower.

Edit: Actually, if you can get one the 7900GTs are fairly fast.

Agree with the above, x1950 pro has much better image quality than the 7900, can do AA+HDR also, absolute steal at £70, be a huge increase in performance from your 6800.

Id remove that link to the 7900 GTX as its not allowed im afraid, and welcome to the forums. :)

Just like to say that your MUCH better getting the 1950 pro than going sli. Less problems, better performance :)

At £70 that is such a bargain at present its just silly. (the cooler is the vf900 i believe, and not the single slot shown in the picture).

While overall you'd prolly be better off with the x1950 pro... those Gainward 512Mb DDR3 6800 series cards are beasts... where it works properly in SLI they are going to easily give a x1950 pro a run for its money - and with the extra, faster, RAM its going to stand up to higher quality and resolutions better... on the flip side SLI doesn't work the best with the 6 series cards but if you can get another matching 6800 cheap I'd say give it a go...

The 8500GT SLI probably would be a little slower than a 6800 GLH SLI... but it depends a lot - the sample 8500GT I played with overclocked from 450 to 730MHz stable on stock cooling, stock voltage, which gave it a huge performance boost but its held back by the crappy slow memory... whereas the Gainward cards have blazing fast DDR3 and plenty of it.
