Hi, Hope anyone can help... a friend recently ordered:
MB-375-GI - Gigabyte X79-UD3 Intel X79 board
MY-053-PA - Patriot Viper Xtreme 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C* 160MHz quad channel kit (PXQ316G1600LLQK)
From overclockers.... have put the system together, but I have a really weird problem in that the system will only POST if I only put in 3 out of the 4 DDR modules.
It doesn`t matter which 3 modules I use, or which slots I put them in, the system will NOT POST if your put in all 4 modules most of the time.
Occassionally it will work (about 4 times out of 40), but once you power off the PC, unplug for 10mins, and turn on again it stops working.
With the 3 DIMMS in the system has build up Windows 8 and shows 12GB of memory... the system seems to be working fine and boots up rapidly (using OCZ Agility 3 SSD as boot drive).
Have checked out the Patriot site for this memory:
http://www.patriotmemory.com/product...id=1149&type=1
And when you enable the X.M.R Profile 1 the BIO shows the memory as 1600MHz, running on 8-9-8-24 timings with a 1.65V profile.
So all appears okay...(except the Advanced Voltage Settings | DDR CH(A/B) and CH(C/D) voltage shows 1.50V)...
Have tried:
-Swapping Dimms around, to ensure its not just a fault module
-Swapped Dimm slots, to ensure its not a faulty DIM slot
-Flashed Bios to V11 to V12 (newest version)
-Tried turning off the XMR profile (sets memory to 1333Mhz)
-Also then tried manually raising voltage in MIT | Advanced Voltage Settings | DDR CH(A/B) and CH(C/D) from 1.50 to 1.65.
-Tried setting MIT \ Advanced Memory Settings Performance Enhance from Normal to Turbo, (haven`t tried extreme)
- Tried removing power to case fans / HDDs and CDROM to see if its a power issue, (have a CA-058-OC OCZ ZT 550W PSU).
For every one of the above I need to get in the BIOS by only having 3 DIMMS in... I make the setting, confirm its okay and then turn off system and insert 4th Dimm... When I switch on the PC starts the fans for about 5 seconds, then switches off for 5-10 seconds and starts up again... however no POST screen appears, and the HDD light never lights up.
To get back in the BIOS again, I remove a DIMM, (doesn`t really matter which) and the system will then boot.
Anyone seen this sort of weird-ism?
