what makes a good mother board?

i'm still getting used to pc and the parts that go in them. i know you shouldn't cheap out on your mobo but why and what makes a good motherboard and what sort of price are you expected to pay for a solid one?

basically what motherboard ticks the majority of peoples boxes?

£100 to £150 mark should get you a decent capable ocing board imo

you can get decent budget boards

you want one that has decent stability/reliability/compatibility with other components

so like i was looking at some of the asus rog boards, what makes them special compared to the gigbyte z97 sli gaming 7 board that i might get in a bundle

its swings and roundabouts i cant see the rog board doing anything that the gigabyte gaming board cant do

some have slightly better sound chips and more cpu power phases

you need to compare the specs of each board and pick the one that suits you best

the limiting factor regarding overclocking will be the cpu and or temps/voltages long before the motherboard will limit you
