I hope this is the right place to post this and im sorry if its not

After thinking a lot about it i have finally decided on going for the I7. I plan on buying a sata dvd drive and a gfx card seperately after . If anyone has a gd idea on how to improve please tell me .

I will be using windows 7 and xp as a dual boot OS

Personally Id go with more RAM, but depends on budget. Obviously if you went to 4GB+ to get the most out of it you'd need 64bit OS.

Its important to remember that windows 7 is a beta and shouldnt be used as a main operating system!
 
Yeah Id look at a 6 gig RAM set, and maybe the samsung F1 1Tb HDD, dont forget to get a decent aftermarket cooler for the CPU so you can get the most out of it
 
I am on a budget of £700. I am currently at college taking computing so am gettting a fair grasp on how things work. I have been at another forum but they all seemed onvinced that a dual core was the answer to everyting, I will be using this for gaming but also video encoding, grapics work and general multitaksing. Do you think this is a good set up if so i will be ordering it this evening

Yes its a good set up, go for it
yeah if it were just gaming I'd recomend C2D as way forward, particuarly with your budget, but as yore doing that sort of college work on it i7 would be better suited, you'll see a big difference for this sort of thing
 
good setup there mate, only 2 things i would change is the ram and hard drive if you can push to that of course,

a good Samsung F1 hard drive would be much better

Unfortunately ive been waiting too long to build this pc so now the components have gone up a lot in price can anyone suggest a gd alternative for the antec 900 case or is it worth paying the extra £6 its gone up

Is there a problem with dust with the antec 300 as its apparently a bad prob in the 900 and will it fit my mobo and everything.

Any one have any ideas on the antec 900dust problem and is there a good case available for under £84 that will be gd for the I7 and future upgrades.

I am currently also looking into other psu's as the corsair has risen £20 since i last looked at it is hiper a good brand ?
 
No. Don't get a P5q in regards to the above message for two reasons. It is DDR2, and i7 required DDR3 motherboards, and i7 is socket 1366, whereas the P5q is only socket 775.

Mobo you have chosen in the first place is good. Other options could be the Asus P6T or the Biostar X58?
 
I will probably stick with the mobo or choose the cheaper versions of the motherboard as i don't think it will make a difference. I have chosen a coolermaster HAF 932 for the case because it is recommended over the antec 1200 and a lot cheaper.

IS this a good idea i am trying to cut the cost as much as possible but don't want to skimp on long term upgrades like the case.

can anyone suggest a psu powerful enough to power the i7 and 2 HD4850's in xfire which i will buy in the near future.

Just wondering if this site has a psu section ? but as i couldn't find it ill add this too my original post:
I am really stuck choosing which psu to go for at the moment i have the choice of a corsair 650W and a coolermaster silent 700W both have 5 yr guarantees and good reviews only difference is one is modular and the other isn't any suggestions which one to buy as their are only a few £'s difference.

p.s its the coolermaster that is silent and it will be going in a HAF 392 case

Well i have finally ordered it just hoping its going to be ok :( i chose the coolermaster 700W to go with it and am taking a 9600 from my old pc
 
Whats wrong with the psu ive been to numerous threads and they suggest to pick the modular psu with the highest current only dif is 2Amps on the 12V power rail in the corsair but the coolermaster has a 135mm fan and is meant to be reliable with its 5yr warranty , also thought it would go well with the case
