hiya all

just built a new system with msi meg motherboard and am4 7950x and on first boot up I have a cpu not detected led on the motherboard ..

do I just strip and keep retrying or is there something else i need to do

im nearly sure it was all installed correctly as mounting the cpu it just clicks in one way only and cpu was new. motherboard was b grade how do I tell which is at fault

I dont have anyway to test with another cpu etc..

it wont boot and cant get it to communicate with the monitor and boot into bios got a evga 360mm radiator and all in one cooler which lights up and fans are working

cooler isnt overtight no bent pins.. guessing the b grade motherboard is faulty and im down 390 quid as cant be returned to scan

last time i buy b grade

only hope is msi will accept a warranty return as less than a year old

right tonight with a slightly more level head .. Im trying to diagnose the issue before shelling out for another motherboard.

is it worth buying a used cheap am4 to test of this motherboard to be certain its failed as i have zero way of knowing which item is at fault otherwise

You said CPU is 7950X, but this is AM5, not AM4 and very few cheap AM5 boards exist (used, or otherwise). You should be able to return the board, regardless of it being b-grade, unless you didn't build the system before their warranty expired?
confused myself

its an AM4 board MSI Meg x570s ace max and a brand new AMD Ryzen 9 5950x .. was flustered last night .. every time I boot the red cpu led lights and it gets no further.

removed the cpu today again checked all pins and re-seated it made zero difference

I now dont know if the cpu or motherboard is at fault..

some cheap AM4 cpus locally at 30 to 50 quid is it worth getting one for testing the motherboard to isolate the problem

edit .. yes i didnt build the system in the 30 days as other parts failed to arrive and i had to chase refunds and things before ordering again

Ok thanks
we dont have a computer shop locally or near buy hence why i,m building this. first time i,ve had issues

did try a bios flash but didnt read about removing everything from the board of renaming the file so will try those tonight

thanks for all your help

tried that tonight and had a further read..

lots say that it takes a few minutes etc..

well the file is label as a 150 file.. tried that and the usb lights up and the light flashes for about 10 seconds

so i have different issues as i dont think the bios has installed but i have no idea if it has as cant check..

after testing exactly the same issues though so if it has i havent solved it and if it hasnt i dont know why..

ok tried again it flashed ran the system for around 4 to 5 minutes then shut down.. so im pretty certain it did do a bios update

but when started its exactly the same..

will call scan tomorrow and otherwise return the motherboard to MSI and see if they cant fix it

Got an amazing reply from Scan today. So I've RMA'd the motherboard to them today and hoping they can find a fault. Fingers crossed but very impressed so far with the service from them.

so motherboard and cpu tested and being returned to me as both working..

so im back to square one with no idea what to try next .. did noticed both test were done with smaller amounts of ram

so i guess i build up and see if i have the same fault and then go from there

ive got two sticks of corsair vengeance LPX 2 x 32gb 3200mhz

yeah its the little red one for cpu.. boot vga dram and cpu .. others light and go out .. when i first saw i didn't worry as thought it was the boot one

debug lights show od reserved for future Ami sec error codes

thanks

built it into a case with ram cooler and gpu..

also installed three m2 drives as harder to add later without removing gpu..

but assumed they wouldnt show till added in bios to boot from

Havent had time yet to rebuild the pc hoping to find some time this week ..

just thinking as ive never used AIO cooling. the fact it worked and the fans run makes me think its ok

but could it be giving erroneous readings and lighting the cpu failure light, is this a possibility or am im clutching at straws.

The cooler running just shows theres power there, overtight cooler usually gives CPU or dram error

Just remember to build outside the case with CPU, motherboard one stick of memory , if you attach the cooler just Finger tight. All you want at that point is to boot up into the bios.
will i need to attach the gpu as well as no onboard graphics i think
