Help on parts or cheap rebuild!

Hi

I am way out of touch with PC builds, not had to do one for long time.

My son has my old PC, basically used for playing Minecraft and Skyping his friends.

It was smelling of burning so I took it apart and it was basically thick with dust. Took CPU cooler off to clean everything. I managed to break 2 of the plastic clips on the 4 pronged cooler base, which uses the plastic clips to secure into the mobo holes.

It is an Asus P5K Premium with a Q6600 and DDR2 memory (if I recall)
Has a HD5850 GFX card which seemed fine for Miecraft.

Questions are;
1. Is it easy enough to get a replacement cooler base, or the clips (which do come apart)?
2. Replace minimum parts to get it up again, in other words can I maybe get a cheap mobo/CPU/Cooler and re-use DDR2 memory and GFX card?
3. Easier to get Mobo/CPU/Cooler/Memory/GFX card for under £350?

Sorry for long winded post, wanted to give background for questions

Thanks in advance for any guidance

1) you can fit a cooler that bolts through the board and attaches to its own backplate.

2) if you can find suitable parts 2nd hand then maybe.

3) would be easiest I think, apart from option 1 if everything still works.

Okay
Cant seem to find cooler clips or base so looked at cheap parts;

How does below sound and should it work together okay?

MSI Z97 @ £65
Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 (Retail so has stock cooler) @ £58
TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 @ £56

Old HDs are IDE so unless there is some sata to IDE cable I guess I also need Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA @ £43

I think rest of parts should be fine inc PSU and the HD5850 I have will work in mobo.

Sound alright or better combos for budget, £222?

Looks okay. Z97 will run faster RAM so might as well:

YOUR BASKET
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLRED38G2400HC11CDC01) £59.99

Can also start off with a 128GB SSD for around the same price as the 1TB HDD, if that will be enough storage (plenty for programs and Minecraft and maybe 1 or 2 other games) till there's cash to buy the HDD. It will make for a snappier system.

YOUR BASKET
1 x SK Hynix 128GB SSD SH910A SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (HFS128G32MNB-2201A) £44.99

Apart from the RAM mentioned above it looks ok.

Or here is an i5 bundle - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-010-AS&groupid=2833&catid=2836

No chance of any overclocking but its an i5 CPU "now".

You will need SATA drives for these boards, you can get converters for SATA to IDE but im sure they will be pants.

just done an upgrade on the wifes pc she uses to home educate our son, I tried the ide converters to cut the the cost which ended up costing more, bite the bullet and go for sata drives the ide converters are a waste of time, they make ide drives even slower if that's possible lol, hope this helps you to decide

If all you've done is break the clips at the bottom of the CPU cooler, there are still plenty of socket 775 coolers available out there for not much money.
