I've never built a rig from scratch so I need to have a look at online video tutorials.

will this RAM

???

I know the RAM is really crap but I've got 1066 stuff on order. Will I get the slow RAM to work ok? The mobo box doesn't say if it will work.

Unfortunately that link doesn't work at the moment, would you be able to re-post it?

Also, for the RAM could you show us the SPD tab in CPU-Z? as that will tell us the model number and allow us to find out the rated settings.

Aye, it should work fine. The RAM may only be rated to 667MHz, but the board supports that fine.

However, if you are mainly making this upgrade to overclock your CPu further - then this slow RAM will hold you back. This means it would be a good idea to buy new RAM as well as the board. In my mind this is not a good idea as you will be spending a lot of money on relatively old tech.

Instead I would strongly consider waiting until January 9th when Intel's next generation "Sandy Bridge" CPUs and motherboards arrive. You should be able to sell your C2Q Q9550 for a pretty penny second hand - and the money you get for this should almost entirely fund a brand new i5 2500K CPU. Then with the money you would have spent on a P45 board and 1066MHz DDR2, you can buy a P67 board and 1600MHz DDR3. Overall a MUCH faster system upgrade for basically the same money.
