Hi Guys,

Building a small rig to play Football manager, Got pretty much everything for the build just wondering if you think in terms of price its viable to get the Sandybridge socket (board/chip/RAM) for around 100?

Currently using a Intel Core 2 on the 775 socket but the board is pants and is missing loads of useful things that the 1155 socket can provide (HDMI/USB3 e.t.c)

Any thoughts?

what ?

yeah why not ?? Its for playing Football manager? Why not just keep the original setup? I cant imagine it is struggling ?? Why you need USB3 SATA3 to play FM ? Onboard HDMI ?? I didnt think any cheap SB Mobos allow the onboard gpu. What cpu will be going in the SB setup? I assume you will be using its onboard gfx if you are using HDMI ?

Genuine questions.

You can probably pick up a cheap 1155 for <£80 quid.. Oh i get it now.. £100 quid for all 3 ? New no Members market? Maybe if you find someone insane.

8gb of ram is still 50 quid so thats 50% of your budget gone.

If you want to play football manager i would recommend that you buy an fm2 apu.

Hmmm.

I still use old 775 kit for various games and HTPC and a budget server. Works well enough.

HDMI can be added with a GPU from £25 or more. Can't you add USB 3 via pci?

Once you start chasing 2nd hand i5 kit you will end up spending more than £100.

Sandy Bridge is still very fast and holds it's value.
You are having a laugh even getting an i5 <£90.

I would look at using your already owned PC and grab a few cans with your tonne.

Not looking for an i5. Its football manager not Crysis. Was thinking the i3, not sure how cheap they are on various auction sites. The 775 socket is the most ideal, but there are just very little in terms of boards that I can find that will do the job, The lad I'm making it for wants the basics, the case he has already has USB3, just need to find a board with USB3 headers.

sorted HDMI out with a 5870 1GB which sorts out the GPU, just finding the right combination of board/chip/ram. seeing as the current board we have in the machine the PCI slot doesn't work or is not PCI-E. Last I remember it was quite difficult to get your hands on 4GB's worth of DDR2 RAM as well?
