Help on thermal compound?!

Did the thermal compound come with the cooler or is it a after market one like MX-3 or AS5.

Youtube is your friend, do a search for applying thermal paste.

There is basically two schools of thought. You either apply a rice sized blob in the centre of the CPU and the pressure of the heatsink spreads it over the chip. Or you apply a thin line and use a bank card (or spreader if supplied with the paste) to smear a thin layer over the cpu then mount the heatsink.

Hope this helps

It helps allot thanks

Regardless of the approach you employ, remember that less is more! The least amount you can use to get the job done will result in the best thermal efficiency.

I'm still a fan of the old school method, little blob in the middle then some cling film or thin plastic bag on the finger and smudge it all over.

There is so much out there to to argue what way is best, I think just putting a blob in the middle is absoulutly fine and even if there was a better way it won't change it by much.

Happy to help. The "rice grain" method is popular as it reduces the chances of the paste finding it's way onto the mobo. If this happens you must clean it off!

You can buy TIM clean but isopropyl alcohol or the fluid for cleaning cds and records is basically the same shizz. If you ever replace a heatsink or CPU, you use this to clean the cpu and heatsink then reapply more paste.
