Hi guys I’ve just inherited an old HP 3130 sff and need some advice.

I want to get into building and Its the first time I’m playing around upgrading components and a good start as I got it for free.
I know HP are ***** for building on and limited but any advice would be appreciated so I can understand what upgrades are compatible with it.
I know the basics as in processor (Thinking i7-870) and ram but a bit lost after that! As I said any help will be welcomed.

Don't throw good money away on such an old PC. Chuck in a SSD and it will be fine for office-type work but I wouldn't bother with much more. As it's a SFF PC you have very limited expansion capabilities. You could upgrade the RAM to 8 GB (4x 2 GB DDR3) and chuck in a two-slot low profile GPU - the best available being Zotac GTX 1650 at £157 - but what do you hope to achieve? It's a decade old PC.

Thanks for that. To be honest the only thing I want to achieve is to play with a set up without spending **** loads for an entry into building. I’m not fussed on the performance of the outcome just a first step into building that’s all.

A SSD can be carried forward to a new PC. DDR 3 is obsolete. A GTX 1650 is the very bottom end discrete GPU
