Asus M4A89GTD PRO intermittent lan problem. Help mr -VK-??

Just put my pc back together after installing a new motherboard, memory and cpu. I have an Asus M4A89GTD PRO but it will not recognize my Ethernet cable :( I have the lead plugged in the back but none of the lights either side of it are flashing, the drivers are installed and i have disabled it and reinstalled them a few times and as far as windows is concerned it is working fine. I have windows 7 ultimate 32bit installed at the mo and when I click on trouble shooting it tells me there isnt an ethernet cable plugged in, but if I pull it out and plug it into my macbook it works fine. Any ideas??

Hmm it's always a good idea to do a clean install after changing the system board unless you are replacing one with the exact same Chipset. Try a CMOS reset first and if you have no joy then I would be tempted to do a clean install.

Does your board have more than 1 Nic, if so, check 1 is not disabled in the bios or that you are using the 1 that is enabled?

Generally, to do a CMOS reset you unplug your system and remove the CMOS battery. Then shift the jumper on the CLRTC pins from 1+2 to 2+3. Then hold in the reset button on the front of your case for 30 seconds. Then shift the CLRTC jumper back to pins 1+2, replace the battery, plug in and start the system. If the clearing was successful you will be asked to set the time and date.

well i started to install xp on a spare hard drive, and i notices the light started flashing on the lan port, so i turned it off and put my windows 7 drive back in and it works now :S how odd, very relieved tho!! thanks for the help :)

Now its doing it again :( i think its a hardware fault as it seems to be hit or miss as to whether the lights come on the port at the back. Any ideas?? Have reset the settings on the mobo and done a fresh install of win 7 x64
