hi guys for a while i've been getting stutters when i play counterstrike 1.6 online, the stutters last for a split second but are enough to put off your aim. Innitially i thought it was my internet playing around but after testing the same server out on my terrible laptop (p4,512mb ram, and onboard ati gfx controller) i got no stutters and the game ran smoothly all be it at a low fps rate.

so my question is this, what is causing the spikes in game in my hardware that's in my sig below? i've run 3dmark06 to see if my gfx card was performing correctly and got a score of 10699 so i don't think that's a problem.

i'm really at a loss here and it's annoying the hell out of me, both computer and laptop are wireless, so could it be my wireless card on my computer that's up the spout?

I would check to see if a background application is causing the stuttering, I would do a virus and spyware scan too. Try disabling any automatic updates in your firewall/virus scanner (dont disable the firewall though), have a look in task manager to see what services are running.

If you're overclocked, try setting your system to stock speeds and see if you get the stuttering. Also, I've had issues with my sound card causing stuttering, try disabling the sound in device manager and play the game for a while to see if the stuttering stops. (of course, do all these things one at a time so you can try and isolate the prob :))

Wireless, that is your problem right there. You could try tweaking your internet options in Steam (lowering them). However, most wireless cards struggle with the amount of data being chugged back and forth.

I have Orange broadband so have got adapters for a livebox router. If I play on a laptop with a wireless card it stutters. If I play with a 54mbps USB adpater its fine.

If your on wireless make sure your using WPA encryption. I had a similar problem in all games where I would get "stuttering" every 30 - 60 seconds on the dot dependingon the game.

Wireless card in general should be fine with that game. Is the wireless card in the desktop running wireless B instead of wireless G or something ? Might just be a clash of wireless cards.

wireless is fien with the game, as my laptop that i tried also was wireless and that was running smoothly as i said.

the only other application that is running in the backgruond is vent, and i'd rather eat my own shoe than play source thanks ;) and i'm attending ig5 this weekend.

i've run virus scans/defrags/spyware scans both are fine and are recent formatts so i know there is definately a issue with the comp as the laptop works flawlessly!
