I've just got a Synology DS414 and brought another computer into the house so have set up a small network as described below.
BT HH3 (with Infinity)
Computer connected to a 1/100 port on HH3
Powerline (TP 500) connected to the Gb port on HH3
Powerline (TP 500) connected to NAS
Powerline (TP 500) connected to second PC
Various devices connected over wifi
So basically a Homehub 3 with a 500Mb Poweline network connecting a NAS and Computer to the computer connected to the HH.
Currently I'm getting pretty consistent speeds of around 10MB/s too and from the NAS via all means. Looking at powerline specs that seems consistent with the stats I have (TP-Link utility says ~250-300Mbps passthrough) and a 1/100 port for the other computer.
I'm a bit disappointed with that though, was hoping for at least 20-30MB/s throughput, which is my fault I guess, due to powerlines not having the throughput necessary.
Is there any other way I can go about this to get faster speeds to and from the NAS without trailing cable all over the place (rented house)? I'm assuming wifi is out as that'll be slower, but anything else, such as doubling up devices*? The NAS has twin Gb ports so not an issue there. Ideally I'd love to get it up to 50-100MB/s but I'm guessing that will only be possible with ethernet cables?
*A Gigabit switch for the other computer attached to the HH is an option but I don't think it'll really matter unless I can speed up the connection from the NAS to the HH.
