I've orderd with OCUK many a time, and never seen a certain screen. I've selected the items I've wanted and gone to my basket. I've confirmed by delivery options and date and continued with the order, but I've got a Natwest screen/box thing on the screen that wants extra details like my email etc and talks about online protection with a 'activate now' button - Sorry, but do I have to do that. Is there any extra charge?

`Your card issuer would like to offer you additional online protection, but this is optional and will not affect your order if you choose not to.

If you have already registered your card you must answer the security question(s).`

It's just there to offer additional protection, but as the site says, if you have already registered for this protection, you need to enter your details. You don't have to register for it as far as I'm aware.

There isn't any charge for my credit card (Barclaycard) so I can't see why you would be charged for it. :)

as killer_uk says, it's added protection from the card provider etc, it doesn't cost anything extra :)

I've noticed it on a lot of sites, and have used it repeatedly now without a problem, it basically makes it much harder for someone to fraudulently use your card online on sites that support it (they need to know your password etc as well as your card number/expiry).

I've not registered for this before, and I don't want too. Yet there isn't any continue button or whatever.

Strange, it's been a while since I've ordered off the site before so I can't remember the layout of the page, but you shouldn't have to register. It would probably be best to send them a webnote for tomorrow.

Has happened the same with me, with ocuk as well if i remember, the old website i believe. I had to register to continue as there was no other option. Don't think its ocuk only, just happened i was ordering from here when i guess my 'refusal limit' happened.

Like all good security measures it has to walk a fine line between being effective and being obtrusive. We fully expect the banks to pick up the tab when a crook hacks into our card or account details, so they have a right to protect themselves.

Its irritating, but play along with it. I'd rather remember a couple of passwords and fill a few forms than have to trade in an era when the banks refuse to cover our losses from fraud.

Happened to me last week. Now that I've received the confirmation letter I'm satisfied that its just another way for the bank to keep your money safe. And not some kind of scam. Or another creeping step towards a corporate police state.
