Please can I ask people to sign this petition, and help out a fellow football fan.

Last week Bristol City council rejected the planning application for Sainsburys to develop the site of the current Bristol City Stadium. We need the £20 million pounds we will get by selling the land to Sainsburys to help fund our new stadium, due to be built less than a mile away.

1000 Bristol City fans have signed it so far, and it would be great if fans of other clubs could sign up too, to show the council how wrong their decision was, and how much we need this planning application to be successful eventually, to help Bristol City get their new stadium.

I am a board member of the Supporters Trust who are helping get this campaign off the ground, and I would be very grateful if you could help me out. Thankyou :)

*bump*

We got 2000 signatures from all over the country yesterday, so thankyou to anyone who signed, please keep em coming.

What were the reasons behind the rejection?

Try being a Barnet fan, our council took the club to court 3 times to try and gain control of the stadium and sell it to property developers.

Impact on the area blah blah, despite the fact its moving 100 yars down the road from its current site. We the club own the land and the stadium, so its not the same as you, just the council being well, erm I don't think I can post what i'd like to say. Sainsburys have offered 20 million, the nearest bid to that was 10 million, which obviously can't compare with the supermarkets offer, the funds of which we very much need to help pay for the new stadium.

There are legal investigations going on because certain conflicts of interest from some of the councillors weren't declared. Naughty behaviour which could throw the result of the vote out. I can't say anymore than that really because its an ongoing investigation and part of the reason we fans got this petition started. We now have 5000 signatures on it. Thankyou to anyone who has signed it, keep em coming. :)

Signed. Bit weird though, usually we don't support the supermarkets. :p

Indeed! Even the local press when all 300 of us were on the telly on Sunday last week marching to the new ground, said it was the first time Bristol City fans had marched in aid of something other than football! :D

Thanks for signing.
