Help out of memory!

I have two r9 290x in xfrire and recently just bought a 4k screen.

However i am now getting crashes to desktop in a few games.

SHadow of mordor is one and the new star wars battlefront.

I thought when graphics cards ran out of memory then the framerate would just suffer but it appears i need to reduce settings until i dont crash?????

That doesn't seem right to me. I can't offer a solution in afraid, but I would be very surprised if it was just a case of tough luck.

Just in games and only at 4k res, never in 1440p res

Also managed to stop it happening in Mordor by reducing the graphics settings. Something very odd going on I think

Change your page file to something higher, should do the trick.

I don't think I've ever checked out the page file. Is there a recommended starting point / amount?

Will check page fil tonight but pretty sure its set to 6Gb. I have upgraded to 12gb ram this week and havent changed it but I would have thought having more physical ram would reduce the size of the page file needed????

To remove it being a driver bug you could always run DDU and perform a clean re-install

I've got 16Gb of RAM and my page file is 16Gb

It set itself that big automatically and I'm not having any issues, got enough disk space for the size of it to not be an issue

If it's on an SSD (which it should be) set it to Windows managed.

really? Just googled and even on ssd people still say best to set a min and max the same so its one fixed size so it doesnt shrink and grow?

If it's not big enough you want it to grow, rather than getting errors. Windows starts it off sufficiently large that this will probably never even happen.

It's worth noting that Samsung Magician fiddles with pagefile settings, mine's now at 200MB without me knowing it had done that.

Damn i only installed that two weeks ago so perhaps its no longer set to 6Gb as i once thought

I get that with CoD AW if i have a user set Page File and its too small, for some reason some games require a massive page pool, CoD AW is one game that uses more page than System. i looks like its using it to decompress Textures.
