Help overclock i7 2600K

Hi everyone,

I've just upgraded my system to sandybridge.

I have:

- Core i7 2600K
- Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P-B3 Mobo

I've just basically upped the CPU Clock ration to 40x to get 4Ghz but I want to understand it a bit more.

There's also the turbo ratio's how can I use these with my overclock, or is it best just to disable Turbo Boost while overclocking?
 
change it to 40
if it dosent work
slowly increase your vcore a bit
then thats it :)

Oh right, I've come from using AMD Phenom II's and got used to overclocking by the multi, just thought there was something different with Sandybridge.

Also do you know what the stock voltage is?

I'm currently going at 4Ghz ~ 1.265v

Not sure what stock is but OCUK recommend you don't go over 1.35v.

I have read that one, he's using 1.25v to get 4.5Ghz, and I'm here with 1.265v and unable to get higher than 4Ghz with that voltage, could I just try and but it to 1.3v and see if I can get the 4.5?

You are not going to damage anything with those sorts of volts anyways. So up it one step at a time until it is stable. Make sure the Ram is manually set to the rated timings and voltage on the side of the module. I tend to use LinX All Memory and Prime95 Blend in short bursts, say 20 minutes of each one after another. I use LinX first as I find it is more stressful but Prime95 picks up on things that LinX misses and vise versa. If it passes an hour of each it is a good sign you are heading in the right direction.

I can see that in realtemp and cpuz i'm getting 1.35v obviously vdroop, how can I manage this.

I've set the CPU vCore to 1.24v @ 4Ghz and have been keeping it at that.
 
OK guys.

I set the Multi-Steps Load Line to Level 6 as I read in a few posts that this is the best setting.

I put the CPU vCore to 1.315v and my multi to 45 for 4.5Ghz

I stressed with Prime and everything seems great, turbo boosting up to 4.5Ghz.

But when the CPU reaches 4.5Ghz it gets to 1.3711v is this normal?
