Hi everybody,

I've bought a e4300 with a Gigabyte 965P-DS3P mobo and 2GB of RAM and I would like to know what configurations do I have to input in order to overclock the processor to 2.5ghz.I have tried before with some of the guides available online but I always end up getting BSOD and POST problems.

This is the processor

The motherboard

The memory
I have 2 x 1GB sticks which are the same.

Also, I have a Palix 7900gs 512mb PCI Express graphics card and the CPU cooler is an Arctic Cooler Pro 7 and the heat level is 29-30C both cores.

Could anyone please guide me on what do I have to type in order to be able to overclock to 2.50ghz?

Thanks!

you need to go into the system bios, from there go into the MIT section, you will need to enable overclocking, its about the 3rd/4th parameter down iirc.

once thats enabled you will see fsb (bus speed) which from you're screen shots is currently at 201.

to get 2.5ghz that will need changing to 278, to get there suggest going up increments of 10mhz and ensuring it boots ok.

at some point you may need to raise the vcore voltage, in the MIT section their is a voltage parameter that has to be set to MANUAL to allow voltage changes.

also what memory do you have, will need to make sure that it has its voltage set to an agreeable level, you're mobo has memory default voltage of 1.8v so may need to change the setting in the MIT section to +0.1.

It's possible your memory isn't liking running over stock ratings at all, knock down the memory multiplier from 4x to something less, I think 3.33 is a setting on that board.

Got the exact same setup as you, still on stock cooling, sitting at 2.2ghz, with silly high temperatures, despite being undervolted to 1.05v...got a hot chip :(

As it is shown on the last screenshot, I have 2 x 1gb RAM made by Nanya Technologies. However, I'm wondering about the CAS latency, seeing that the memory is 5-5-5-18-2T.

Can you please tell me your changed on your Bios please?

Nanya tecnologies is the memory chip manufacturer, details we need to check for the voltage is corsair, ocz, crucial, ocuk etc the people that actually sell the memory stick.

memory settings are ok its running at 400mhz (default for 6400 memory) and those timings are what it shows in the bottom screen shot as being best for them at that speed.

as mentioned it might be they need a little extra voltage than the 1.8 supplied as default on you're mobo.

I lowered the ram multiplier so the ram is running under it's rated 800mhz, by default the ram multi is set to 4x, so running at 201mhz FSB will knock you over the rated. I set mine to 3.33.

I put the RAM voltage up to 2v for my GEIL, but check what yours is rated for.

I whacked down the CPU voltage cause of my already hot temps, although most people would leave it as it is until the overclock needed more.

Edged up the FSB by about 10fsb each time, until I got to my happy 2.2ghz.

Check your load temps with orthos and coretemp/tat as you go. 68 is where I decide I'm going a bit high, although my idle temps are 50ish :/

I opened the case and took one of the sticks out... it said ELIXIR M2Y1G64TU8HB0B-25C.0705.XX-TW | PC2-6400V-555-12-E1.1GB.2RX8.800 | ME0713105C

does that mean anything?

I read on the net that you can simply overclock my increasing the cpu host frequency to 278 and set the System memory multiplier to 2.0... Is this a healthy way of doing it? because I have done it and it boots alright but I'm conserned that it might become unstable.

the temperature according to speedfan 4.32 is 31C and in Everest Ultimate Edition is 31 too... Is this acurate?

everest is usually gives the exact same temps as tat does, i suggest you download it to find out what your load temps are as they are what matter

yup, managed to find a spec for the memory and the 1.8v supplied as default from the mobo is fine.
