hi i have a e4300,tuniq tower,GIGABYTE ds4,2x 1gb geil ddr6400, 7800gtx and hyper type r 580w psu

every time i try to over clock even by 10% my sytem will hang and i have to reboot

if i overclock in bios my pc just cycles 3 times then boots with previous settings.

im using easytune 5, is there a better way to overclock?

hope u guys can help

ben

Stop, turn it off and relax for a bit :)

Then read up on overclocking with an intel machine. Learn what each number means, do a few calculations so you know what happens when you change things. Look around in the bios and work out what each thing does. Then start changing things.

Use the bios, not easytune. Use cpu-z in windows.
i have read up on it, i do know what each thing is, the fastest i can get it to boot is 225*9 = 2025 and ihave vcore at 1.45v

RIGHT IM @ 3.2GHZ NOW BEEN RUNNING ORTHOS 4 45MINS SO FAR OK APART FROM I HAD TO DISCONECT USB FOR SYSTEM TO BOOT
336X8
1.41 VCORE
NORTH BRIDGE +0.2
CPU TEMP AT LOAD 100% 42-43C

thought i would decrease voltage to 1.35v
300x9 = 2700
north bridge + 0.2
ram @ 798

in cpuz my multiplier and core speed keep changing x6 - x9
is this normal?

Easy as pi... to 1 million digits in 20 seconds.

Clocking
1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version done[
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus done[
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function done[
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3vwhat is it for the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C5 800MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400DC) it says 1.8v on them but ive read its 2.1v
7. Set the MCH Voltage to +0.1v+0.2v is that to much?
8. Set the FSB Voltage to +0.1v done
9. Set the VCORE to 1.45v - Please be aware that this will increase temps!done my temps on 3.5ghz was 45max 100% load
10. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable" done
11. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x" done
12. You're set to go, just increase the System bus Frequency to Overclock
13. I would reccommend that you use Intels TAT to monitor temps[/QUOTE] will do

First put the memory on its lowest divider so it's running at a ridculously slow speed. You know this can't cause any problems.
Then play with the cpu speed. Keep it on it's maximum multiplier (9?) and raise the fsb, testing with orthos until it's unstable.why is it best to keep it on x9 sorry if i sond dumb?
Then play with the dividers until you get a good mem speed.

Max cpu speed first. Ie. give it say 1.35 or 1.4 volts and raise the speed until it's unstable.
is 1.45v to much

how long should i run orthos for? it ran for 6 hours till it stoped last night @ 3ghz vcore 1.4v im upping vcore to 1.45v now

this was 380x8
would it be better then to decrease to say 336 and increase multiplier as stated above to x9

thanx ben

ps thanx for all the replys your helping me a lot! ive learnt **** loads on here

I would do this just so you can stress the chip without stressing the mobo so much. Once you've found a good clock speed for the cpu you might find that the same clock with a lower multi and higher fsb is faster.

so is a higher fsb and lower multi better?

and would it stress my mobo (ds4) to much?

how long should i run orthos? so far 4hrs 51 mins @ 3ghz 1.45v vcore

i cant get my cpu stable on any x9 multiplier above 300 ((1.45vcore + 0.2v mch,) if i increase fsb v pc wont boot)

i.m stuck @ 380 x 8 3ghz which i'm happy with!

But if anyone has any tips I'm still interested

Thanks for all the comments so far tho much appreciated!

Ben

No idea, very very nice clock, you'v got me jealous as im at 2.9 with a 9multi.
Temps you getting? Think im going to have a fiddle inside my case improve airflow etc, and up vcore a wee bit more and try and get mine past 3ghz
orthos stable 24hours
51c max under 100% load 31c idle, using tunik tower
