Hi there, recently purchased a mini-itx system from here. The mobo is MSI Z97I AC (non "gaming" version).

The system came as stock with 4790K. Not really needing to overclock it, but would be nice to see if the chip was indeed a decent 'un.

However when I go in to the BIOS I can't change the multiplier. It is defo a K version chip and the board recognises it as such, but it appears to be locked down. It is set to auto and I cannot change it....

I have updated to the latest BIOS. This is my first time using MSI UEFI (my other rig is an Asus ROG), so is there some setting I need to enable first? I am baffled tbh.

Yeah thats what I am talking about. It is stuck on auto.

:apologies, ignore the highlighted setting in pic. I am talking about the cpu ratio setting and not the base clock which the cursor just happened to be over when i took the pic on phone.

Why would the cpu ratio be stuck on auto? On info panel at side it says can only change if cpu supports it - clearly a 4790K supports multipler/ ratio changes as does the motherboard, so what could be up?

Something I haven't yet tried thanks. Just with it doing same on 2 versions of BIOS it never even really crossed my mind. Will give it a shot over the weekend bud thanks.

Tried everything. Clicking, enter key, +/- keys.

Not gona get a chance to sot down and have a tinker around today, but will give it another shot tomorrow. Sure it is something simple that I have overlooked, but a bit bamboozled yesterday lol.

With my gigabyte gaming board, the bios seems to have a legacy bios display mode and a uefi one.

Some settings just seems does not change when adjusted in legacy display mode, and I need to be in uefi in order to change the setting.

I need to press F2 to change between the legacy display and uefi mode, check your manual if there is any similar option.
