Hello everyone, 2 months ago i completed my first pc build.
I want to overclock my cpu to see if it improves gaming in general.
i mainly play FPS.
I already OC this to 4.5hz and it seemed stable but i took it back to stock cause i wasnt sure if everything was ok(i followed a youtube video that has the same cpu and mobo)
I have stressed for 2 or 3 hours and temps were max at 72*C
Now i improved my iddle temps by 10*c and wanna try it again
(My cpu is at 27*C,30*c on iddle)
This is my setup

CPU Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X 82.9 CFM CPU Cooler(with 2 high cfm fans from corsair)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3(R2.0) ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

Memory: Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Storage:
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" HDD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB HDD

GPU: Sapphire Radeon R9 280X 3GB Tri-X Toxic Video Card

Case: BitFenix Nova ATX Mid Tower Case

Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit

Case Fan : Corsair 120 x2 120mm 2k rpm

If someone can guide me trough it would be much appreciated
Can someone help me with this?Thank you

4.5GHz is pretty good going really. There is a thread on overclocking sandy bridge chips somewhere, perhaps try a forum search or google search relating to it with ocuk included.

I believe there was a certain voltage that Gibbo strongly advised not to exceed as it may severely shorten the lifespan/kill it...best find that thread. ;)

i have found his tread.. but my main problem is pretty much that i don't understand anything about it..

so lets say if i change the multiplier to 4 or 4.5 i dont know if i have to change the voltage or whatever, and i don't know the values in general that i should enter =/

What voltage is it running at when stressing it to 72c? It will say what the auto voltage has set it to in cpuz or hw monitor.
