Help Overclocking??

Hi guys,

Just got my 3570k and Asus P8Z77-V PRO but I cant seem to get my head around overclocking it and I've never had a problem doing it before.

Should I be disabling Speed step and Turbo mode?? It seems even when I do the multiplying jumps around when I'm in windows.

Ideally I'd like around the 4.5ghz mark but cant seem to get the right configuration for the thing to post. Even multiplier 42 and 100mhz wont work?
 
Trying to work this out myself, I have the same board and CPU. What I just did was change the Turbo ratio to 43, for a 4.3GHz overclock. I prefer to do it like this so it's not always overclocked. I'm about to run prime 95 to see if it's stable or if I need to bumb the vcore a little.

It's going good, 4.3GHz just by changing the Turbo ratio to 43. I'm currently at 1.176 vcore which is 100% Prime 95 stable, and I think I can lower it even more, when I get the time I will continue to lower the vcore until it becomes unstable. Under Prime 95 my temps are around 60 - 65c so I'm really happy with that. There's no doubt I could get to 4.5GHz easily, but I want to perfect 4.3GHz first.

Words of advice, manually set the vcore, when I left it on auto it was stupidly high.

Yeah i spent a few hours last night (im in australia) playing around with the overclock. Seem to be having problems it clocks fine at 4.4ghz at low volts within windoes but if i apply those exact same settings within the bios, it wont boot!

Don't know what to tell you, we have the same board and same CPU. Have you updated your bios? There's a much newer one than the default. Also, which cooler are you using? I'm using an Antec Kuhler 620.

I havent actually updated the bios, is Version 0906 the newest?

I am using the Noctua NH-D14
 
i have the same board but a 3770k and i cant seen to OC it ... i use the turbo ratio and set it to 42 .. save and exit ..but when i check cpuz its still ay 3.5 .. go back into the bios and it has 42 in the auto settings

Try doing that again but put it under stress when you check CPUZ and it should shoot up to 4.2 your CPU will be using Speedstep and Turbo to keep the speed down while your computer isnt requiring it.

thank you I see it now ..can you not set it to be 4.2 at all times ?

You can if you think it is needed. But in my opinion i wouldnt bother it stresses the CPU when you dont need to by putter more volts through it and forcing it to run hotter.

When the CPU is called upon it will up the multiplyer automatcally which will increase speed. Browsing forums and writing an email wont need this power.

thank you so much :) set it at 4.5 did a quick stress test ..will do a longer one in the morning
