Here is the problem - when I press the power button to boot up my PC, it starts to boot but powers down before getting to POST. It then powers back on automatically before again powering down before POST and continues to do this until I kill the power at the back. I have tried it with a new PSU and it does the same thing so it isn't that.

I'm running an E6600 on a P5B Deluxe WiFi board.

Oh - and I've also left it for a night with the CMOS battery out and the CPU detached from the board, but when I reinstalled it was the same story.

Any ideas anyone?

Nope, it's the only board I have... it was working fine before (at stock). I suspect this was caused by my overclock as I was running orthos when it first powered down. Didn't think it would be a major problem though as I was doing 3.6ghz, watercooled, and only hitting about 52c on the CPU (1.45v)

FSB was at 400 (1:1) so the RAM was just at 800 (ok for my OCZ DDR2)

Which MOBO chip could have blown if this was the case? And how come if I wasn't pushing anything to mad extremes?

So is the general consensus that I will need a new board?

Will the Asus P5Q Pro be ok with an E6600, an 8800 GTS and the Apogee waterblock I was using for the E6600 on the P5B?

Anything else I need to consider?

I also forgot to mention - think I was in denial - that the first time it powered down (under orthos) I was convinced I could smell a faint burny sort of odour in the air... I KNOW this doesn't sound like good news, but is there still hope?

Once again, I hasten to add that nothing was being pushed to really extreme levels (see above) and temps were only just over 50c.
