Help PC won't post :(

I just gave my dad my old P4 setup and it has been working fine. Only problem it had was it kept crashing when trying to connect to the net with an old Speedtouch 330 USB modem (crap I know but it was free...). So without the net I had to use an old pc to get the latest drivers and save it onto a USB flash drive. To do this I had to unplug the P4 setup.

Now the problem is that after I got the drivers etc when I plug the P4 rig back in it doesn't post at all. All the fans are spinning and I can hear the pc doing an auto restart thing like it does when you overclock too much it boots back to last known working settings.

I have cleared the CMOS by shorting the pins and by removing the battery for 1 min, unplugged dvd drive/floppy, taken 1 stick of ram out and nothing has changed. It powers on but no "beep" or anything on screen.

Would I be right in assuming the CPU is dead? Whats the warranty on a retail P4 socket 775?

Heres the system spec:

P4 540 3.2ghz
1Gb Corsair Value 2x512mb
Gigabyte 8I915P Duo Pro Mobo
80Gb Seagate SATA HDD
Connect3D X300 128mb GFX card
NEC 3500A DVDRW
Floppy
Antec Smartpower 350W

All is at stock speeds etc and was working literally 90mins ago.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

could try doing an atx reset, disconnect all cables and hold power button down for 1 minute, then plug in just keyboard, mouse, monitor and power lead and see what happens.

also reset bios defaults..

Just a quick update. I left the pc off cos well I gave up and then when I came back to it it miraculously turned on and got into windows. However after transferring the drivers off the usb drive it crashed and back to square one again!

So mobo is borked?

Gonna try your suggestion antc.
