Been looking to replace a 140mm fan I have in my HTPC due to noise levels

been looking at the 2 below

Sharkoon Silent Eagle 800 140mm Fan £9

or

140mm Be Quiet! Silent Wings USC £14
Both have good reviews.

I am edging towards the Be Quiet due to the way it is designed for the case mounting but its a fair difference in price.

Alternatively I would consider other options so please feel free to put recommendations forward..

Main function is very low noise and good airflow.

I'm using a Yate Loon 1000rpm in my 300 and its inaudible, even with the 3 other fans turned off.

Biggest difference I noticed was using rubber mounts instead of screws. Stops a load of vibrations

Invertigo I was put off by Noise Level - 25 dB (A) were the others were 16 -db or lower

Tunstall

I saw them but was a little concerned about the airflow, as its not very good in my case and need all I can get out of the fan to be honest but with out sounding like a jet (the one I have in atm) ;)

Take manufacturer measurements with a grain of salt. 9db is unreal. That's less noise than somebody makes breathing. Most rooms have an ambient noise level of about 18-22db

Undervolted Sanyo Denki San Aces.

Personally I am using 2 x 140mm Fractals in my case. They seem very quiet. In fact I dont notice a difference if I turn them all off or leave them on. That to me says they are pretty quiet.

The sharkoons arent all that quiet, Ive got one in my antec 300 and it has a rather annoying low pitched drone which is amplified as it resonates through the roof of the case.

I got a 140mm Yate Loon blowhole fan the other day and it's very quiet. I can't say much about performance in a very technical accurate sort of way, but people say Yate Loons give like, 90% of the performance of high end fans at less than half the price.

If you have a fan controller though, I would recommend going for the medium or even high speed versions instead. They're a little harder to find, but with a fan controller you have the option of putting it at a low RPM for less noise, but also higher RPMs for better performance. The "original" only goes to about 1000RPM.
