Hi all, decided to take up a new hobby, and learn to play Guitar, but to start I need to get a guitar... Now having never purchased one before I am not sure what I am looking for.

I want an electric guitar, and it must have the amplifier/anything needed with it, for around £100ish.

Any help on picking a decent one would be apreciated.

Thanks :)

Squier's are very hit and miss. Some are basically just fenders, some are awful.

Better off getting a Pacifica :)

Playing Guitar Hero III demo has kind of inspired me to learn a real electric guitar, too! Was wondering what kind of set up a beginner needed - what about learning resources. Are there any good books that teach you how to play?

I was wondering the same thing - as a beginner I don't think the difference would be noticeable.

I have got myself the "Electric Guitar Coach" software. It's pretty good. I'm dying to get started but will probably wait until after Christmas and take it up as a New Year hobby.

There you are, to my ignorant mind that means nothing. Do the different woods simply mean a better build quality? It wouldn't have anything to do with the sounds produced?

i dont really know... ive got ''guitarists'' hands so im told, but ive always just prefered the sound to a bass.. nice deep booming noises :)

plus the fact basics seem a lot easier! and less fiddly! as i dotn cope with fiddly very well, 4 strings all the way! :)

edit: also the fact that i was into ska when i was younger younger! (mini me)... which tends to have a lot more noticable bass lines!

Yeah I did bass first as I heard it was easier, I started playing chords though and then realised I was just a frustrated guitarist :o
