I like the 970 and have personally used some without issue on 1080p and 1440P screens. plus you get a free game at the moment.

The water cooler LED can be made to glow red, so I guess its up to you if you want to spend the extra.

The only issue is having to buy a MSI board, Gigabyte are generally much better.

Is there a huge difference? Planned on getting a decent overclock out of the i7.

Theres not that many reviews for that particular MSI board, the ones that are out (OC3D for example) are not to favourable.

At least with Gigabyte I can guide you a bit through the BIOS and settings.

If you went with something like the Asus Z97-AR it is basically all black/silver so the white would still work with it

I still prefer Gigabyte like stulid but I think Asus > MSI
