I'm trying to set my boys first gen XBOX 360 through a fairly new ASUS monitor. The ports on the back are 2xHDMI, 1x VGA and audio in and headphone aux (not sure what the correct names are for these ports). I seen on ebay there are specific XBOX 360 cables with a VGA connector on the end but there is also the red & white component type connectors on the cable which I don't think will go in to the audio in and headphone ports on my monitor would they?

There also seem to be a number of component to HDMI convertor adapters available. The XBOX 360 cable is the one with the 6 connectors rather than 3 - what is the difference between this and the 3 connector cables? Can I get an adapter that has 3 ports rather 6. Would this work. Help?

IIRC, the 6 connection lead is both component/composite. So the green/blue/red are the component connections.

360 quality is VGA/Component/composite. Not much difference between vga and component. But composite is limited to 480p.

Ok thanks I managed to find a solution. The kids do have 2 XBOX 360s; one the 1st gen and the other a newer one. But being as temperamental as these consoles are, there are certain games that will work on one and not the other - generally the newer console will play some of the games that are slightly scratched but there a couple of games that won't play in the new console but do on the older even though there are visible marks on the disc.

I never could quite believe that we were never offered a better alternative to CDs/DVDs - so fragile compared to the tapes that used lie in a drawer or get kicked around the floor of the car... A mute point now really that everything is moving to digital but it always annoyed me.
