Hi guys,

Am looking at a new build in a month or two (not 100% sure on Intel or AMD yet, waiting to see how Comet Lake fares).

Memory is a minefield! From what I can tell, the sweet spot appears to be 3600 C16 and I'm looking for 32GB of the stuff. Can't see myself ever going beyond this so 4x8 would be fine providing it's stable.

Looking around, this is really hard to come by. A lot of people on here seem to recommend the 8Pack Team Group stuff and I notice the 16GB kit is reduced right now to £120:

I'm wondering whether I should grab two of these now, even though I'm not going to be building for a month or two? Would there be any problems grabbing two of these rather than a dedicated four-kit?

Any advice or recommendations appreciated.

This is what I did. Bought a pack in Jan (£100), built end of Feb. Then just bought another pack(£120)

Getting 4 to work wasn't plug and and play and tbh I'm in the process of still checking things are OK.

My orig OC which was just tightened secondaries was solid, but with all the banks full it errored in memtest quickly.

No need for a dedicated 4 kit. As long as ram is the same it should be no different. Mixed ram will work too, but settings need to be lowest of the pair etc.

I ordered the Crucial Ballistix BL2K16G36C16U4B 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz CL16 kit for £183.99. It was the best price I could find for 3600 CL16. Hopefully it works in the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX board :)

Yeah kinda wish I did the same. Nice to have all dimms populated though and I won't need more than 32 gb on this build.

Regarding the 8Pack stuff.

With current prices on OCUK it is pretty much a no brainer. Only 1 set cheaper and that's only by £10.

Seems Taiwan are still pumping out the ram, its not so bad over there as I understand it.

My ram is built 15/20 so first full week of April.

Thanks for the input, I guess I'm just concerned that prices will have returned/ballooned in a couple of months if this mayhem keeps up but I guess there's no way of knowing.

Regards the Crucial Ballistix, I see that's actually 16-18-18-38 rather than 16-16-16-36 of the 8Pack.

Also there seems to be some confusion on the four-dimm kit of the 8Pack stuff, as it's listed as 16-18-18-38 but one of the reviews says it's actually the same 16-16-16-36 stuff as the dual-pack.

In reality, how much difference does CL16 vs CL18 make at 3600Mhz? I'm thinking gaming specifically here?

Is the 4 dimm pack designed for quad channel?

i'm on 2 sets of non-matched DIMMS in 4-channel. have had some stability problems at XMP (which i think i have solved...i hope). else i would jump on the dual-channel 32GB.
