Hi, I bought a i9 7900x from overclockers.co.uk it was the pre-binned (delidded) 4.8Ghz. However I can not reach this speed at all even at 4.0GHz with voltage of 1.35 it's not stable can't even get to the windows login screen. The box the cpu came in says 1.26 to 1.28 volts needed for 4.8GHz overclock. Please can you tell me the settings to get 4.8GHz at the moment am leaving the memory on auto. The motherboard is the Asus Rampage VI Apex and AIO cooler is the NZXT Kraken X62.

Thanks

Ok lets start simple. If you restore ALL bios defaults, what happens? Are you sure your cooler is installed properly?

PS- I'm not 8Pack :P. Hopefully he can sort this for you.

Just to check are you on BIOS 0601 or above, 0702 is the latest but if you are on 0227 still it was quite unstable with certain processors. I know that once we had updated the the BIOS the i7 7800X behaved much better, and we could keep the all core overclock up, we are still waiting for the 7920X :(

Also, as above, restore your defaults. If that makes no difference, also just try running with a single stick of RAM in the board, and cycles though the modules if you have trouble with the first one. :)

Then await Mr. Pack

EDIT: What PSU are you using?

There is no such thing as guaranteed overclock..... dont believe the marketing hype.....

Was about to say that hes aio cant cool that anyway lol.

i doubt they thoroughly test them.

they probably know 90% of chips will do that speed after being de-lidded so just de-lid and do a simple test. if it passes they sell it.
Stop spreading false informations its been explained by 8Pack how ocuk bins cpus many times...

From what i gathered those 7900X run fairly hot at stock before delidding, so even delidded if your going to push that thing to 4.8GHZ i wouldnt even bother trying to cool it unless it was on custom water, that 360 AIO is the bare minimum i would attempt it at tbh.

Thwy are not running hot at stock due to power but to ******* inside cpu instead of using solder... Delix fixes that

Really appreciate all the replies thanks, there however is definitely something wrong seems like when you want to overclock it will crash. I tried 3.5GHz at 1.20v I mean surely that's more then enough and 1.20v am sure a 280mm AIO cooler can handle that but same results it's only when everything is on "Auto" it's fine (obviously  )
Bios is the latest and everything is default.

That cpu was retested on apex for 30 mins+ none avx prime after delid so for sure it was fine when it left here. Pre delid we do real bench and non avx too.

No we don't just ship out non tested products ever. This was well tested on the apex.

I am not ruling out damaged in shipping because we had some delid 7700K that had that issue.

So your cooling is simply not enough. Absolute minimum is 360 rad just for capacity. 240-280 is over run with heat.

Firstly totally stock. Test your ram with hci first and xmp.

Hi 8 Pack, really appreciate your help thanks. I fully understand a 360 rad is minimum but when you under clock the cpu like i did 3.3GHz at 1.14v surely a 280 rad can handle that? It's not even getting to the Windows login screen. The memory is left on Auto running at 2133MHz according to bios. I have set the memory to manual as well 2133MHz at 1.35 with very lose timings of 19-19-19-35 just to elminate the memory is not the problem. However am gonna be really honest with you when i set the memory to XMP and cpu is left on stock auto it crashes just a blank screen but when everything is on stock Auto it runs fine.
Memory is: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB 4133MHz CL19
Motherboard: Asus rampage vi apex

I don't think you quite understand. The 4 sticks of ram that plug directly into the motherboard, take them all out and try just one stick at a time to see if it works ok or until you potentially find one that causes the issues you have.

Does that make sense?

Oops maybe I misread you're last post. My apologies. Still might be worth doing it or it may be worth you sending the whole lot back and having ocuk do it for you.
