Hi all,

Last night my vid card gave up, its a asus 8800gts 640mb.

I was using windows 7 and I noticed little streaks or lines that flickered on the desktop, not all over just in a few places.

I reset the pc and the display would not come on, I could here the windows 7 startup sound, so im guessing its the graphics card.

Can some one confirm if that sound like it is?

Also Im going to get a replacement, but dont want to spend a fortune so im thinking a 260 gtx?

Thanks

Daz

Have you got access to another graphics card (maybe owned by family or a friend) which you can put into your PC and if it works fine then your problem is very likely to be the graphics card? (I will be easier to try an Nvidia card as you can test it with the same drivers).

If it is faulty, is the card still under warranty? If so you should be able to get a replacement with the same or better performance.

If the display isnt coming on when your computer displays the bios post then it is 99% certainly going to be the card.

Is it just me, or does everyones nvidia card seem to be dying?

Sorry I didn't notice that you had already mentioned that it was a Asus one. Asus usually have good warranty, somewhere in the region of 6 years or so. Do you have the original receipt? But as for the above plan I agree, try it with another card.
