well the other day i installed a demo which in turn installed some nvidia physx stuff on my system i removed it from control panel not reallising my chipset in nvidia it also removed the chipset sm bus which i had to reinstall since them my primary hard drive shows up as a removable device in the system tray i'm also unable to print anything with my printer it's driving me mad

Go to Device Manger and select disk drives then right click on the harddrive and choose properties then policies. Tick optimize for performance. That should stop the safely remove icon and speed up the system too.

Can't you go into system restore and go back to just before you installed that demo?

no because for some reason there are no restore points before i re-installed the sm bus controller
