Hi all, I'm looking to get myself a new AM2 X2 rig next week.

I'm thinking of:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-170-AM)
Price: £141.95 (£166.79 Including VAT at 17.5%)

MSI K9N Neo-F nForce 550 (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-071-MS)
Price: £46.95 (£55.17 Including VAT at 17.5%)

BUT - I don't know what RAM to get. I have about £150 for RAM. I don't know whether to get 2GB of PC2-5300 or 1GB of PC2-6400.

If people could shed some light on this for me, it would be appreciated:)

A lot of people are going to tell you to forget about X2 and go for Intel C2D.
A C2D E6400 (£160) will give you a much better performance/price ratio and when overclocked will blow the X2 4600 out of the water.
If you must have X2 then 2GB of memory is the way to go.
But think twice before you click the order button because it's very true.

Okay then, if this is the case, could I get RAM, Mobo and CPU for around 400 pounds? If so could you show me a good system? Thanks.

Here goes: All prices are inclusive

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL) @ £152.69
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-061-GI) @ £105.69
Intel Core 2 DUO E6400 "LGA775 Allendale" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - OEM (CP-137-IN) @ £160.92

TOTAL = £419

Sorted :cool:
