hi im new to the overclockers site and would love some help from you guys.

i have decided to build my own pc for the first time as i would like it exactly how i want it and know what parts are going in it (fingers crossed all goes well) i have been reading ebooks and watching clips on youtube and it looks pretty straight forward,so im going ahead with it :)

i will be buying the components when i have the money which will be around 3weeks.so if you could give some feedback to let me know if the components i am choosing are compatible and will be good for gaming and music production,it would be much appreciated :)

the parts i have so far are:AMD Phenom II X2 Dual Core 550 3.10GHz Black Edition and the NZXT Tempest Crafted Gaming Tower Case - Black (No PSU)

i have been looking at the ati 4890 graphics card and the Asus Crosshair III Formula AMD 790FX mobo, are these compatible and good for overclocking (once i learn how to do it,or get it done in a local shop) if so would someone be able to reccomend the rest of the components needed for my build.i would preferably like crossfire as i would like to buy another 4890 down the line in maybe 3 months or so.

i will have about £800 to spend which will be to buy the monitor aswell,i have keyboard and mouse already and now the cpu and case.im stuck on which way to go for the os,im currently using xp but would give vista a try if reccomended

i will look forward to hearing your comments and will take your advise onboard
thanks

Might want to check on the monitor but i've always liked my samsungs and never had any issues with them.

thankyou for reply much appreciated :)
i will go for the components you reccomended as im sure you have years of experience with computers.
i ordered my cpu and case from another site but have found out they aren't in stock.i will get the parts from overclockers, should i stick with the cpu and case or can you reccomend a better option.
im used to using xp so shall i stick with xp 64 bit and upgrade to win 7 when its available?

thanks again hope for another reply

would you say the Asus M4A79T Deluxe AMD 790FX is the best all round mobo for am3? i only ask because i read the forums and the mobo seems to be the most important part.
would the mobo you suggested last for a few years and will it support graphics cards that are dx11 that i here are coming out soon,if so would it be best waiting for dx11 cards? instead of the buying the 4890

sorry to be a pain asking lots of questions,i just dont want to end up having to spend more untill a few years

thanks

would this package be worth getting? *OVERCLOCKED* AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.80GHz @ 3.30GHz / Asus Crosshair III Formula Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 DHX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C9DHX Bundle
£338.99

i have found this bundle *OVERCLOCKED* AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz @ 3.80GHz / Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P Motherboard / OCZ Platinum AMD Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C7 Bundle
which is the motherboard you said wes

i am listening to everyone for feedback but have only just come across these bundles,so would it be best getting the bundles or buying separately?
the bundle would be a benefit to me because i dont have a clue how to overclock just yet so it seems a good deal instead of trying myself and screwing it up.
ive read and watched how to build pc's and it doesn't seem difficult aslong as i take my time and be careful so i dont mind building it.
i dont know a lot about pc's but you have to learn from somewhere,so if i made a mistake when i build it i can learn by it.
like ive said i appreciate whoever is giving advise to me and would like as much info as possible, every little helps :)

being as you have the processor and the case you might as well keep them.

has been said that the "new" graphics card should be out around october when win7 is released, but i'll believe it when i see it.

the motherboard i listed or the gigabyte wes mentioned will be fine.

i'd be suprised if the new cards wouldn't work in the mobo, haven't seen any specs to suggest they wont.

depends on how urgent you want the setup, i'm not aware of a lot of dx10 games so the 4890 should be good for a while.

i ordered my case and cpu but the site i got them from was out of stock when i ordered online, they didn't tell me that at the time so i got a refund.
so i have that money now to get a different cpu and case if you think i should.i have seen bundles and have posted them on the thread, what do you think?

i will go for the motherboard and parts you stated, but would just like to get your feedback on the bundles, once you could tell me if they are worth it or not i will make my decision on what to get.
thanks again for your time

i'd go for the quad core if you can get it while its still on offer, if not the tri core bundle with the Titan Fenrir cooler.

no reason not to go with your original choice of case, seems ok and should do the job if u decide to go crossfire.

i will go for the quad core :) and the rest of the spec you suggested on your first post.
i will order the bundle by friday the latest and by the rest of the parts here and there when i have the available cash.
thanks a lot mp260767 your a star :)
hopefully everything goes well when it comes to building it,if not im sure i'll be able to get some help if nobody on the forums mind ;)
you have been a big help for what to go for and i appreciate your time trying to help
hopefully you wont get more messages asking for help because it must get annoying

anway thanks again and take care
