Ok here's the situation. I use a BT HH5. I run my main PC via wireless using a Archer AC1200 usb adapter. About 8 ish meters away from the router with 2 thin walls between. Connects at 520 - 585MBps. Great.

However, my son is doing a lot of video and photo stuff on his pc. He is connected via wireless too on a 300mbps adapter. He is in the opposite corner of the house from the router, connects at 48 - 72mbps. Usually 72mbps all the time. So I would like to purchase an extender, either the tp-link re200 AC750 or the tp-link TL-WA850RE 300N.

My pc will be closer to the extender than the router. Will getting the RE200 extender limit my wifi speed to 433mbps? (Max speed on that AC Adapter) Or worse yet if i get the WA850RE will that limit me to 300Mbps?

Power line is not an option. No spare sockets. Extender will work fine. But I don't want to lose 150 - 300mbps off my link.

So question really is, if I use an extender will my machine connect to that at the 433mbps max vs connecting directly to the router at higher speed?

update. The WA850RE is 2.4ghz only, AC wifi is 5ghz. . . . so I can extend just my 2.4ghz network. . . . please ignore. If an admin see's this please delete.

Ok. Thats a 1 to 1 solution. Which yes would do in this case. But if we add tablets, new phones etc the wifi extender works out much better value. £19.99 for a whole lot of devices attaching compared to 1 to 1 solution for over double the price.

Not really as for a tablet your not going to need blistering wifi the existing connection will be fine.

PS ignore Bledd and his powerline hatred I think one of the inventors of the technology abused him as a child.

Though for about 1 3rd of my house when the wifi does drop to 40mbps ish even youtube buffers. 15 and 19 year old kids use A LOT of youtube. Constant music video's. I really upset them when I redownloaded my Steam library :-)

To be honest the ideal solution would be to cat5/6 the house. Ideal in terms of id love gig to every room again. But the wife hates wires. AC wifi is pretty quick now. The iphone 6's in the house all AC, pc AC, just my sons machine on N.

Plus just got an added gain. (yes i've bought the wifi extender now) it now covers my garden too!
