my laptop is currently out of action so i decided to boot my desk top up (i'm using my parents pc to do this post incidentally) anyway, i hadn't used my desktop for 6+months and it now wont recognise my usb mouse or keyboard.i plug the mouse in at the usb port and it lights up but wont move! i put in another keyboard (not usb) and that works but the only mouse i have are usb and without the function of the mouse, i have no means of selecting OK when (vista 64) prompts me to obtain the driver for the mouse. there are 3 other (non serious) error boxes that come up when the desktop appears (just stuff like licence has run out etc) and i can't get rid of all of those either, there's always one left before my keyboard selects the start bar without me wanting to.
any ideas how i can get around this not having a mouse?

you should be able to press Tab on your keyboard until the button is highlighted. Press Alt+Tab to switch between windows.

Failing that if you can get in to the control panel using windows key, i think there is an option somewhere to control the mouse cursor with the arrow keys on your keyboard

yeh i tabbed as much as i could. will try the control panel option if i can get into it. i thought it would have been easier than this though

well for me if my usb devices r playing up i use tab till my preferred option is highlighted and then press space bar which acts like an action key. give it a try can thurt
