Ive recently changed internet provider so issued with new router.

Plugged NAS into new router. New router has issued NAS with new IP address from its DHCP server.

Old IP address was 192.168.0.12. New IP address is 192.168.0.102. I can access the NAS admin screens from a browser, so its working.

On my laptop and PC I have a shortcut pointing to the NAS shared folders. In the 'target' I have the old IP address, when I try to overwrite this with the new IP address I get an error and I can't access the file share.

Dont know what to do to fix this. Can anyone help?

What does the error say? Is it a permissions error or you can't access the IP at all (i.e. \\192.168.0.102 from explorer says "The network name cannot be found.")

On some of the older NAS's I've used I have needed to disable/re-enable the SMB service on the NAS when giving it a new IP. What NAS is it?

It says this:

The name '\\192.168.0.102\Dan' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure that the path and filename are correct.

All Ive done is change the target path from \\192.168.0.12\Dan, to \\192.168.0.102\Dan

Its a WD my cloud.

I can access the NAS from its IP address via browser.

If you manually go to \\192.168.0.102 (or \\192.168.0.102\Dan) in file explorer not just changing the target path for the shortcut does it give the same error? It might just need credentials due to the authentication info previously stored being for the other IP and just changing the shortcut doesn't trigger a new login prompt in Windows (for whatever reason)

i.e. If I try to create a shortcut to a valid but unauthenticated share \\192.168.1.96\ProjectData on my machine right now it just gives an error

Code:
Problem with Shortcut
The name '\\192.168.1.99\ProjectData' specified in the Target box is not valid. Make sure that the path and filename are correct.

But if I go to \\192.168.1.99\ProjectData in Windows Explorer directly it prompts me for network credentials, then the shortcut can be created/updated

Thanks that's worked. I had to create a new shortcut and then I got a login prompt. Just changing the target didn't work as you said. I would have thought it would either remember the login I already used or prompt me for it though.

Bit late now but...

If I am changing my network gear I will set any dhcp reservations on the new kit to match the current ip addys on the current network.

Then it is usually a straight swap out with minimal loss of connectivity.
