Hi all

Well im in need of advice as there is a laptop here which is going to be a gift for someone for christmas and it works perfectly and looks very nice but the screen on the laptop has some sort of a brightness coming from the bottom of the screen which is very noticeable when in boot up when there is a blank black screen.

The full details of the monitor are:

17" WXGA+ TFT, resolution: ergonomic 1,440 x 900 pixels; 16:10 format, non glare

Now what i want to know is if i should try and get a replacement can i expect the same thing as its a common problem or should the screen be completely perfect for the spec it is ?

Below are a few photo's i've taken but they are abit darker than it is with your own eye so imagine it abit lighter.

I've heard of this problem with TFT's before and would like to know is it a common problem with the spec of screen which its got and should i try get a replacement or am i to expect this with all screen with that spec.

Thanks

It's the backlight.. nothing to worry about really?

I personaly would'nt want a laptop with such a thing happening but then i would get a higher spec screen.

What i need to know is should i expect this kind of problem from a screen of this spec as i think its in the mid range of the specifications ?

Im not really in the know when it comes to these kind of things hence the thread hehe

All flat panel TFT screens have a backlight, how visible they are depends on the particulars of the screen, how expensive it is etc. Suffice it to say, that in a dark enough room you'll be able to spot some backlight on virtually every flat panel. There's not a lot you can do about it if that laptop's backlight is very visible, other than taking it back and swapping it (which will be tricky as there's technically nothing wrong with the laptop.)
