Hi,

Just got the following kit and having a lot of trouble:

Intel Quad 6600
Arctic Freezer 7
Abit IP43 Motherboard
OCZ 8GB (4x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2
Samsung 1TB Spinpoint
Samsung Sata DVDRW
Antec Sonata Case with 500W Earthwatts PSU
BFX 8800GT PCIe Graphics Card

However I am finding constant locking either in the BIOS or during trying to install Vista 64. The keyboard connected is USB only. I find when trying to edit BIOS it just locks.

I have set the memory DRAM Voltage to 1.9 Volts 5/5/5/18 as per guidance on the forum. I haven't set any Manual settings otherwise. CPU Settings etc all set to Auto.

Tearing my hair out... :(

Any suggestions?

If you have not installed windows yet it could be that you have installed 8 gb memory. Try installing with 4 gb and there is a windows patch for 64 bit so 8 gb can be installed>also the bios may need to be update as well.P.s have heard of problems with oz memory

I have checked the Bios and I am running the latest (27th Aug 2008).

I don't understand how the problem is related to windows vista when the system is locking in the BIOS Setup Screens. Sometimes it locks on "Windows Loading Files" and I have to reboot. Bizarrely although the keyboard is USB and it locks in BIOS Setup pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del on the Keyboard restarts the machine.

Tried installing Vista with 4GB and it locked up at the "Language to Install" screen.

Have you setup memory timmings and voltage, might need to up the MCH voltage .1 or .2 volt
Might be worth a try.

Are you confident in how your CPU/heatsink is mounted ? If so then it's your Ram. Check on Mobo site for compatibilty.
Try underclocking your Ram or upping volts & reseating CPU.

Memory is set to 5/5/5/18 and 1.9 Volts as per the timings on the actual stickers on the chips. I am currently trying to run them at the 2.1 Volts setting (shown on the Overclockers page for them). Still randomly locks. It might lock in BIOS Setup or it might lock whilst trying to install Vista.

Yes I am sure the Heatsink Mount is correct, it's locked in solid. I paid special attention to it it being such a large sink and fan. Not quite sure what you mean by "underclocking" the RAM? Do you mean running at slower speeds?

Do you all think the PSU is man enough to run the Quad/8800GT/Memory Dimms and Hard drives?

System failed installing Vista again (locked up) with timings of 7/7/7/18 @ 1.9V.

PSU is fine for running the above setup.
So I installed a spare Hiper 580W PSU with same problem results.

I then removed, rechecked and reseated CPU and Arctic Freezer 7.

Increased MCH Voltage .1 then .2 to no avail. Tried slowing RAM to no avail, then increased RAM to 2.1V again to no avail. Same lock ups (this all with either 2GB or 4GB). So now I am at a loss, remember this is happening before I get to actually installing the OS :(

Beginning to think I bought the wrong MB and RAM. Any other ideas?

OC'ers say MB is faulty so am sending in for refund. Anyone recommend the preferred 775 board for this memory so I can reorder for delivery tomorrow?
