ok, so i have been unable to connect my 360 to the internet since i've had it, basically because i was on the old modem and it just didnt want to work, would always fail at the IP address when testing the connection.

anyway, i bought a linkseys router, working fine for my current PC, but still failing when trying to connect my 360 to the internet, this time it falters at the DNS part.

can anyone lend a router noob a hand :)

what am i doing wrong, it's really getting me down that everyone else has seems to have an easy time connecting, but i have no end of troubles :(

windows vista home premium 64bit
linksys WRT54G wireless router

basically got this this morning, plugged the ethernet cables so that on went from my modem, to my router, and the router would transmit wirelessly, that was fine, petty much plug and play, however i then wanted to set my 360 up, on the same network, so using another ethernet cable (the on that comes with the 360) i plug it into the router+360, my woes on this have alreay been mentioned in another thread.

anyway, i wasted my day fiddling aroud trying to get the xbox live connectivity tester to pass the DNS instead of fail. i failed at this, however, i did manage to **** the entire network up, and now cannot use the router to connect AT ALL and have to go direct from modem to PC via ethernet.

when i try and run it through the router AOL tells me the DNS is not configured or something.

what the hell is up with this, anyone lend a hand? help is very much appreciated

Firstly id reccommend reseting the router back to factory defaults if you think youve made it worse.

How is your pc connected to the router? Physical or wireless?

wireless
i had it set up as such:

modem
|
|
computer

then i got the router, and initially set it up:

modem
|
|
router
.
computer

however i wanted to connect my 360 up, (and this is where the problems started)

modem
|
|
router
|
|
|
360 computer

it couldnt obtain the DNS, so while trying to sort that out using forums and googling, i somehow screwed up my modom (i dont think it's my router)

but i will try a reset, thanks.

well, i've reset to factory, and reflashed, AOL won't connect, comes up with a DSL error with ths modem (which it didn't give before i buggered it up) however i now seem to be able to connect straight to the internet without having to load AOL up, so thats always a bonus.

thanks for the help mate
